Cooking Tips To Make Life Easier In The Kitchen - Part Four
By: Chris Teo
Here is another set of cooking tips for your perusal. Hope you find them helpful in your kitchen.
1)Lengthen the life of your cooking oil: Store your cooking oil in
colored plastic bottles- the squeezy one that you use for tomato sauce
or mustard sauce. They are easy to pour and the oil lasts longer than
in clear plastic or glass because light cannot penetrate the colored
plastic. Just make sure that you label the bottle so no one squirts it
on his hotdog!
2)Save bread-ends for pizzas: Don't throw away the bread-ends. Save them in the freezer. When you have collected a stack of them, defrost and use them as pizza bases. Put your favourite toppings on and bake them in the oven like you do for normal pizzas. |

3)Keep your mushrooms in the dark: If you want your mushrooms to last as long as possible, put them in a brown paper bag which keeps out light. Mushrooms last longest when they are cool, dark and dry. Never wash your mushrooms under running water. The porous texture will absorb too much water if you wash them. This will reduce their flavour when cooked. So wipe them with kitchen paper instead..
4)Put an apple in your potato bin: If you notice your potatoes starting to sprout, just throw an apple into the bin. This will slow down the sprouting process.
5)Toast nuts and seeds quick and easy: Toast nuts and seeds quickly in the microwave. Spray a microwaveable plate with oil. Scatter sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, almonds, peanuts etc on the plate and microwave on high for 3 to 5 minutes. Stir every minute or so. Cook until they are brown.
6)Freshen carrots with a haircut: Want your carrots to stay fresh in the refrigerator? Cut the leafy tops off before storage. Otherwise, the tops will continue to draw moisture from the carrots making them dry and bitter.
